Advice :

Before your flight
Some air lines accept bicycles on their planes, which can be expensive, but not all of them, so enquire beforehand about prices and possibilities. The airlines which do not have an all-in price consider the bicycle as main luggage and apply prices for weight excess which can easily be reduced. The excess weight cost varies according to the airlines and there can be a difference of between 6 and 10 Euros between them.

Preparing your bicycle:
Generally speaking, for all airlines you must:

  1. dismantle the pedals
  2. deflate the tyres
  3. place the handlebars parallel to the front wheel

Packing
Some air lines have compulsory packing requirements, and in any case leaving your bike without adequate packing is risky. You can use what you like to pack your bike, from cardboard boxes to thick cling-wrap film with cardboard around the back wheel and the drive transmission.
The equipment used to pack can be left at the airport’s left luggage if your flight does not leave from another airport.
