What is the Luberon Park ?

The territory of the Luberon Natural Regional Park, at the meeting point of the very different Alpine and Mediterranean climatic influence, is spread over 185 000 hectares, from Cavaillon (Vaucluse) to Villeneuve (Alpes de Haute-Province), on each side of the Luberon range (1125 m at the Mourre Nègre). It has an exceptionally diverse wildlife and a valuable architectural and landscape heritage.

The Luberon Natural Regional Park is also a living territory inhabited by 170 000 people spread over 77 communes. In December 1997, the Luberon was officially accepted (United Nations Organisation for education, science and culture) into the world network of biosphere reserves by UNESCO It was promoted, with the 50 other reserves scattered over the five continents, to the rank of "living model" of sustainable development: a territory where experimenting and development have shown that economic and social development, and more widely the meeting of the population’s needs, can be associated to maintaining the diversity of wildlife and the preservation of a life style.
